Buckinghamshire Reusable Nappy Scheme

Parents throw away three billion nappies a year in the UK, costing local authorities over £60 million per annum in disposal costs. By supporting parents to switch from single-use to reusable nappies, councils can reduce expenditure and help protect the environment, and parents could save hundreds of pounds by making the eco-friendly switch.

Here at The Nappy Gurus, we are so pleased to announce that we will be involved in a Reusable Nappy Incentive Scheme initiated by Buckinghamshire  Council, which aims to encourage parents in the Buckinghamshire region to move away from single-use nappies.

The new scheme will help to alleviate the upfront cost associated with reusable nappies by providing parents in the district with a £30 voucher to spend on reusable nappies to get them started on their eco-journey.

Delving into the potential savings of eco-parenting, reusable nappy users could spend less than £300 over the course of their child's infancy, whereas a disposable nappy user is likely to spend £900 during the same period. Therefore, parents willing to make the switch to reusables could save up to £600 per child, and with the recent news on the rise in cost of living, this is a substantial saving that could make a considerable difference to those in the Buckinghamshire area.

How can I use the voucher?

Once you have your voucher approved via the council, using the link below, you can redeem that with us here at The Nappy Gurus on any reusable nappy, training pants, swim nappies, nappy kits and accessories. There is no minimum spend.

Take a look below at some examples of reusable nappy kits that can be purchased with these vouchers, making it oh so easy to make the switch.

With many parents willing to reduce their household waste generation and hoping to reduce their monthly outgoings, reusable nappies are a great option to help ease both. Reusable nappies generate zero waste and can be used repeatedly, meaning disposable items can be avoided altogether. If parents can help reduce the country’s reliance on disposable nappies, this will support the government's objective of eliminating all avoidable waste by 2050 and all avoidable plastic waste by the end of 2042.

We hope more councils across the UK implement reusable nappy incentive schemes and consider the willingness of parents to become more eco-friendly!

If you are a Buckinghamshire parent of a child in nappies, you can apply for your £30 nappy voucher here, letting them know that you would like to redeem it here with The Nappy Gurus.
